Black Bear Cottage is located just outside Livingston Manor in the Catskills, on a quiet dead end road only a 5-minute drive from town. The property sits on three private acres surrounded by forest, offering privacy while staying close to restaurants, breweries, shops, hiking trails, and famous fly-fishing waters.
How many guests can the cottage accommodate?
The cottage has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, comfortably hosting 7–8 guests. It’s ideal for families, couples traveling together, friend groups, and small retreats.

Is the tiny house included in the rental?
Yes. The tiny house wellness retreat is included as a bonus for guest use. It’s ideal for yoga, meditation, journaling, or anyone needing a quiet moment away from the main house. It can get really cold in the winter and really hot in the Summer but outside extreme temperatures it is a nice addition to the rental and can even sleep 2 on the mezzanine.
Is Black Bear Cottage family-friendly?
Absolutely. Families love the spacious layout, easy outdoor access, and simple activities like nature walks, the nearby Rail Trail, backyard play, and winter sledding on the gentle hill behind the cottage.
Is the cottage suitable for groups?
Yes—many guests come for group trips, birthday weekends, wellness retreats, work-from-nature getaways, or long weekends with friends. The open layout, chef’s kitchen, and multiple bedroom options make it perfect for group gatherings. Yet parties are not permitted and occupancy should be limited to 8 guests per the house rules.
Is there good hiking nearby?
Yes, the cottage is surrounded by incredible Catskills hiking trails. The Rail Trail is directly behind the property for easy walks, and well-known trails like Frick Pond, Mongaup Pond, and Willowemoc Wild Forest are all just minutes away. Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain are within a 30–40 minute drive.
Is the cottage close to fly-fishing spots?
Very close. Black Bear Cottage is minutes from the legendary Willowemoc Creek and Beaverkill River, two of the most iconic fly-fishing destinations in the country.
Can we cook at the cottage?
Yes—the fully equipped chef’s kitchen includes modern appliances, cookware, serving ware, and essentials. Many guests plan cooking weekends or group meals during their stay.
Is there cell service and Wi-Fi?
Yes. The cottage has reliable high-speed Wi-Fi, and most carriers have strong service on the property, making it easy to work remotely if needed.
Is the hot tub available year-round?
Yes. The outdoor hot tub is open year-round and is one of the most-loved features of the cottage—especially after hiking or on snowy winter nights.
Are pets allowed?
Yes, we welcome well-behaved dogs. Please let us know in advance if you’re bringing a pet.
How far is the cottage from New York City and Brooklyn?
Black Bear Cottage is approximately 2–2.5 hours from NYC/Brooklyn, making it a perfect weekend escape for Brooklyn and Manhattan travelers.
What should we bring?
We provide linens, towels, basic toiletries, kitchen essentials, and firewood (seasonal). You may want to bring groceries, personal snacks, hiking boots, swimsuits for the hot tub, and seasonal outdoor gear.
